Professor Prasad Mathew earned his Medical degree from Bombay University where he also completed his post-graduation residency in pediatrics. He completed another residency in pediatrics at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland and a fellowship in pediatric hematology/oncology at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. He's currently Professor of clinical pediatrics in the Division of pediatric hematology/oncology and Director of the Ted R. Montoya Hemophilia Program at the University of New Mexico. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a member of the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, the National Hemophilia Foundation, and the World Federation of Hemophilia, among others, Dr. Mathew is a reviewer for the journals Blood, Haemophilia as well as the Journal of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, Journal of Pediatrics, Pediatric Blood and Cancer, among others, and has published many original articles, textbook chapters, and abstracts. He was a past co-chair of the Pediatric hemostasis subcommittee of the Scientific and standardization committee of the International Society of Thrombosis and Hemostasis, and a member of the Medical and Scientific advisory committee of the National hemophilia foundation in the US. Dr. Mathew is a recipient of the Faculty Achievement Award, the Dean's Award of Distinction, the American Medical Association—Education and Research Foundation's Florence A. Carter Fellowship Award, the American Pediatric Association/Society for Pediatric Research Clinical Research Award, and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation's Bruce Hubbard Stewart Memorial Award for Humanistic Medicine
As a Fulbright-Nehru scholar, Professor Mathew will work towards the spreading of the knowledge about the early diagnosis of bleeding disorders to the patients and families as well as to the upcoming medical students and residents, and to the clinicians who see these patients on an infrequent basis in different areas of the Indian subcontinent. Through his work in India he is hoping to give back to the community at large. |
